Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 and ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups whole wheat pastry flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 and ½ tsp aluminum-free baking powder
  • Yellow and Orange food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a medium-to-large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Using an electric mixer, cream together the butter and sugar.
  3. Add in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Slowly combine the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
  5. Divide the cookie dough into 3 separate bowls.
  6. In one bowl, add in yellow food coloring.
  7. In another bowl, add in the orange food coloring (combine yellow and red until you get orange).
  8. HINT: DO NOT EVER MIX THE ORANGE COOKIE DOUGH AND THEN TOUCH THE YELLOW (will make the yellow turn orange). Wash hands very well.
  9. Using a bread loaf, line with plastic wrap.
  10. Add in the non-colored cookie dough and pat down and spread out until it is even with no lumps.
  11. Add the orange cookie dough on top of the non-colored cookie dough. Pat down and spread out as well.
  12. Wash hands! Add the yellow cookie dough on top of the orange cookie dough. Pat down and spread out.
  13. Take the ends of the plastic wrap and move the cookie dough onto a cutting board while keeping the plastic wrap under the dough
  14. When you take the cookie dough out of the loaf pan, it will look like bread.
  15. Using a sharp knife, slice the cookie dough like you would with bread. The thicker you slice it, the thicker the cookies will be.
  16. Slice the cookie dough slice in diagonally into candy corn shapes.
  17. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  18. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and place the candy corn sugar cookies onto the pan.
  19. Bake for 8-9 minutes (will depends on how thick you slice it).
  20. Add the orange cookie dough on top of the non-colored cookie dough. Pat down and spread out as well.
